What is a grease trap?
A grease trap is the most commonly used wastewater pre-treatment device in food preparation processes. It is designed to collect grease and oily waste by flotation and coagulation and to settle solid material as sludge.
The effectiveness of a grease trap is dependant on good house keeping practices and frequent clean out and maintenance.
Two housekeeping tips:
- Collect cooking oil and fats in on of our available receptacles. This waste is then either composted or recovered in a biofuel process.
- Separate your food scraps (organic material) into one of our organic bins.
