IWM Supports Skills West Careers Expo

Instant Waste Management were proud to support the recent Skills West Careers Expo held at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre.

As WA’s largest careers event, the expo attracted over 9,000 students, graduates and job seekers and provided a fantastic opportunity for them to investigate various career paths across a wide range of industries, all under the one roof.

With dozens of well-known WA and Australian brands exhibiting, visitors were able to explore tertiary courses, find traineeships and apprenticeships and enquire about real job opportunities.

The event also played host to the WorldSkills Australia competition whereby candidates undergo a series of skill and knowledge tests. Candidates can compete in one of seven skill categories, including:

–          Construction & Building Technology

–          Creative Arts & Fashion

–          Information & Communications Technology

–          Manufacturing & Engineering Technology

–          Social & Personal Services

–          Transport & Logistics

–          VETiS Competitions

IWM were delighted to provide free-of-charge skip bins for the tradespeople competing to go to the ‘Nationals’ level of the competition.

The various skill tests generated a high volume of waste, including building waste, which was placed into our large skip bins. We provided a waste management service throughout the event to help keep the space safe and tidy.

At the end of the event, we arranged for the collection and transportation of the skip bins to our state-of-the-art material recovery facility in Bayswater. Here, the waste was meticulously sorted and any recyclable materials were recovered in an effort to help reduce landfill which is our number one priority.
